What is CFP® Certification?
The CFP® certification process, administered by CFP Board, identifies to the
public that those individuals who have been authorized to use the CFP® certification
marks have met rigorous professional standards and have agreed to adhere to the principles
of integrity, objectivity, competence, fairness, confidentiality, professionalism and
diligence when dealing with clients.
This process involves the four E’s: Education, Examination, Experience, and
Ethics. For more information on each E, visit

Why get a CFP® Certification?
In 2004, the Bureau of Labor Statistics ranked “Personal Financial Advisors”
as the third fastest growing profession in America. This has awakened people to the benefits
of this rapidly growing profession. The CFP® , CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and
certification marks are the most recognized financial planning marks in the world. Unlike
an educational designation offered by a college or university, CFP® certification is
based on independently established public interest standards. As a result, it prepares
you for a career-long commitment to meeting the ever-changing needs of your clients.
As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner, you can energize or revitalize
your career, whether as an entrepreneur or in a large firm, by leveraging the knowledge
and prestige associated with the world's most recognized financial planning certification.
You will be equipped to provide truly personalized services to clients and maintain high
levels of financial planning professionalism and expertise.
About CFP Board-Registered Programs
According to the Official CFP Board website, CFP Board-Registered Programs are financial
planning education programs at the college or university level that meet specific criteria
for educating individuals who wish to fulfill the education component for obtaining
CFP® certification. Individuals who meet CFP Board's education requirement are
eligible to sit for the CFP® Certification Examination. Successful completion of
the education and examination components are two of the four prerequisites to
obtaining CFP® certification. A program may be an undergraduate, graduate,
doctoral or non-credit certificate program, but all programs must meet several
core requirements. For example, the institution must be a regionally accredited
institution of higher education and the program's courses must cover specific
financial planning topics that have been identified by practicing CFP® certificants
during periodic job analysis studies as important for a financial planning practitioner
to master.
In addition to the option of offering the program at the undergraduate, graduate or
certificate level, the program could be offered through a school of business or consumer
sciences, or a continuing education department. Programs can be classroom-based or
provide distance-learning options. For more about CFP Board, click
